Tales From the Alluvial

talk2atree This album is a real blast from the past. Written and recorded long ago, a project completed due to the Covid19 pandemic. You will find lots of story songs here such as Gold in Every Creek which evokes Gordon Lightfoot, and Sippin Dos Equis, a direct tribute to Jimmy Buffett. Strong influences from the Allman Brothers in the composition and delivery of some songs and in the harmonizing guitar solos. Favorite track: Goin' South.

about

The album contains eleven tracks consisting of acoustic guitars, clean sounding electric guitars with bass and drums, well blended harmony vocal lines and crafted story lines. Six of the tracks are full band offerings, four tracks are acoustic guitar, bass and vocal and one track - 'Goin south', is simply acoustic guitar and vocal. But they all have one thing in common. They are stories set to song; hence the title 'Tales From The Alluvial' - alluvial referring to the alluvial flood plain, on which sits the house where these songs were recorded. A traveling theme runs throughout, as a lot of these songs were written about being on the road, either as a working musician or a sight seeing hitchhiker and there are a lot of references to the road, relationships and drinking, not neccesarily in that order. Sounds like your typical country record, you might say, but this album covers much more stylistically, with elements of Folk Rock, Country Rock, Singer/Songwriter and 50's rock n' Roll with a tip of the hat to the twin, harmony guitar sounds of Southern Rock bands of the 70's.

Jonathan is one half of the blues/roots duo Holly Hyatt and Jon Burden, who have three critically aclaimed albums under their belt. One of the tracks on this album appeared on Holly and Jon's first album, 'Big Wind On The Way'. The track 'Broke Down Ford' makes it's second appearance on record but this is the original recording of the song as it was first written back in the late 70's.

'Tales From The Alluvial' is a DIY project in the true sense of the word. It was recorded on tape in a log cabin, miles out in the country. No auto tune, pitch shift, click tracks, programming or sequencing were used. It was transferred to digital and mastered but retains a warm, analog sound, reflecting back to the sounds of records of the early to mid 70's.
